Leave it to the HBR to simplify how to gracefully exit your employment  - highlighting an interesting case study at the beginning before getting to the rules / lessons learned. We provide the three rules on the click through.
- Relationships. Say thank you to anyone who treated you well or had a hand in helping you get ahead. Offer to keep in touch. You never know when those people may be able to help you.
- Samples of your work. Chances are you’ve produced work that could be useful when you are looking for your next job. Avoid strategic documents or trade secrets, of course.
- A smile file. This file should include emails from bosses or peers complimenting your work, thank you notes from customers, and any glowing reviews.
